“There are borders everywhere. The border is a metaphor for what separates us from each other,” says Luis Alberto Urrea, author of Into the Beautiful North, the 2018 NEA Big Read in the St. Croix Valley book selection. Urrea has also said, “I am more interested in bridges, not borders.”
What separates us? What brings us together? Is it natural, cultural, political? As part of the Big Read, a visual arts exhibition will feature work by local artists that reflects the theme “Bridges and Borders.”
